The Quad Group is proving plentiful with positions combining an absurd number of duties. I remember the good old days when the Quad job board was rife with vacancies for line managers, project managers, consultants, and assistants for each. Since then, the matrix management model has withered to a predominantly operational management structure.

Anyway, this “pricing analyst” position is more truthfully a “cost estimator / account resolution / communications coordinator” vacancy. Quad must be hurting financially to bundle all those responsibilities into one staff member. Besides juggling those tasks, the hired applicant is expected to apply their “systems management” knowledge while learning “new” logistics principles, tactics, and laws. I can understand having to brush up on the latest statutory revisions from lawmakers, but last time I checked, we still relied primarily on interstate trucking to transport raw materials and on the postal service to transport periodicals. Do any readers want to share exactly what “new logistics principles” have come into existence (or come back into vogue) in the past five years?
